Esteemed business magazine features Dave and Jerry Kahn, PostNet franchise owners in Illinois
The 2014 father-son recipients of the PostNet’s Franchisees of the Year award are featured in a question-and-answer article by Entrepreneur magazine. Dave and Jerry Kahn, franchisees of 21 years, operate a PostNet Neighborhood Business Center in Lake Forest, Illinois. Dave tells Entrepreneur that even though they began without prior experience, the shipping and printing franchise helped them achieve financial security.
Dave says that the PostNet’s training and technology gave them the boost they needed to become successful in franchising.
“I was impressed with the business experience and knowledge of the PostNet founders,” Dave tells Entrepreneur. “They had a solid track record of successfully opening mail and parcel stores, so I knew they could help me.”
“The partnership has paid off. For more than two decades, PostNet has pushed us to remain competitive by continuously evolving our services to adapt to shifts in technological and customer demands. When we started, 80% of our profits was from packing and shipping for consumers who walked into our store off the street. Today, we are a much more robust Neighborhood Business Center that meets the design, shipping, print, and general consultative marketing needs of the growing small business community.”
Dave’s history with the PostNet franchise and his plans for the future

Dave was with PostNet even before we began franchising our stores. We helped the Kahn family open an independent mailing and parcel shop, and Dave decided to join the franchise because of the consultation and services we provide our franchisees.
“I had benefited greatly from their consultation, so I jumped at the opportunity to partner with them on a closer level,” Dave says. “I converted my store to a PostNet franchise so I could receive more assistance with training, evaluating vendors, installing the right technology, and more.”
Dave’s son, Jerry, is currently the general manager and has plans to take over operating the store once his father retires.
